QOL Mapping Service — FAQ's

Q: How do I turn on a new layer?
A: Expand the folder of the thematic data category you are interested in, then click the box next to the layer you want to display. Then click the refresh map button and if zoomed in to the correct level, the layer will display.

 

Q: What is the source of the data in the QOL Mapping Service?
A: Geographic data included in the QOL Mapping Service primarily comes from the U.S. Census Bureau, RAND Corporation, County of San Diego Alcohol and Drug Services, State of California Alcohol Beverage Control, California Department of Education, San Diego Association of Governments and SanGIS.

 

Q: How often is the GIS data updated?
A: All GIS layers are updated either quarterly or annually.

 

Q: How do I display the QOL San Diego digital photos of a particular community?
A: First turn on the QOL San Diego Photos layer and make the layer active by clicking on the round button next to the check box. Then click on the hyperlink tool (the lightning bold) in the toolbox on the left hand side of the screen. Finally, click on a feature you want to display and a separate window will open with the desired community digital photo.

 

Q: What is the recommended internet connection speed to be able to view the QOL Mapping Service?
A: It is recommended you have a cable modem, DSL, or T1 internet connection (dial-up internet connection works, but performs considerably slower.
